BMW's vision of the future continues with their second "Project i" car, the i8. Described as the evolution of the Ultimate Driving Machine, the i8 combines the driving dynamics of a supercar with the planet-friendly efficiency of a hybrid.
Remarkably similar to the 2009 Vision concept, the i8's design is best described as sci-fi chic. It looks like something a superior alien race would drive—if they still used terra firma to get around.
Lightweight scissor doors swing open to reveal a driver-centric cabin bathed in luxurious, renewable materials. The leather is naturally tanned by olive leaves (didn't know olives could do that) while the plastic surfaces are molded from recycled bottles.
Leave the i8 in Comfort or Eco mode, and you'll enjoy a 20 mile range on just battery power. Switch it to Sport mode and the i8's performance DNA springs to life. Two motors front and back combine to propel the i8 with the confidence of the supercar it truly is. Arguably, it's the most dynamic BMW Munich has ever built.
